How about one hour a month?

You hear people all the time talking about “giving back” to their communities, their customers, their professions. Giving back makes you feel good, knowing that somebody is benefiting from your experience.

If you own a business or have a particular area of expertise, and you can spare just one hour a month to help another business owner, then check out the newly reorganized Council Bluffs SCORE chapter. SCORE volunteers assist business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs who need help with business basics – or advanced business issues.

SCORE, “Counselors to America’s Small Business,” is a national nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs. Counseling sessions are free to business owners and entrepreneurs – as are many online resources. The Council Bluffs SCORE chapter is being moved to the IWCC Entrepreneurial Center, which also houses our Small Business Development Center. Truly, the goal is a one-stop shop that meets the needs of entrepreneurs across Southwest Iowa.

To sign up as a SCORE volunteer, send an e-mail to jmierau@iwcc.edu. Or come to our initial open house at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25. RSVP to ctrost@iwcc.edu.

You don’t have to be retired to be a SCORE volunteer. You just have to want to give back.
